We invited those who live, stay and visit Ponderosa to draw maps individually and collectively to shed light on connections, meaning, personal borders and collective thresholds that are hard lines, soft cushions, warm smells, work and fun, awareness and inward investigations.

We wondered what are the deeper-rooted meanings coming out from mappings of people with different root lengths in the place?

Visiting Ponderosa means shaping and the becoming of a society towards acceptance, inclusion, and wellbeing that artists and participants collectively cultivate via alternative creative practices. Some stay and over time proposals become embodied material wherein land and people make up not only society but home.

Ponderosa proactively invites 'being and shaping home' by sharing a sense of ownership with everyone who enters. Daily creative interventions make Ponderosa a shifting site-scape that reflects who is presently living there and co-working schemes allow the attitude of generous openness to be practically managed.

The personal and collective ownership of place and actions resonate deeply. It induces care, awareness and ease that, like water seeping through cracks, change our human nature unconditionally. Softly it trickles into the land and body, self aware and probing. The direction of flow is outwards.

Collective, fluid and permeable bodies mark a society where the how matters more than the what, where togetherness, listening and empathy can replace commonly drawn boundaries like property and rules. Knowing openness as a physical state means BEING open, means we can see beyond personal needs because we are excited by the prospect to not know. The ability to dialogue with true empathy and critique with honest care is magic harvested that can unlock doors - is there a responsibility to heal a wider community? Or a presence that can grow?

Roots reach. Like breathing out, Ponderosa can invite a release of tension. As people move further afield yet stay connected to the Gut others can feel and experience another lightness. Ponderosa is naturally integrated into the fabric of the ordinary everyday yet it can flow more openly for off site, eyes of Ponderosa dwellers still shine like windows revealing the warmth from the hearth that mixes laughter and wholesomeness.

How can the trickle become a free flowing?

By affirming existing relationships and their role we bond. As we drew maps with participants, artists and tenants relationships and roles became more pronounced and shared. A need for privacy emerged and the abundance of natural beauty came into focus which is far and wide yet easily missed. What if visitors and visiting practices took to disseminating the spirit and work via walks and talks outside of Ponderosa's borders?

What if people could encounter creative engagements or talks in someone else's home, what if the kitchen party was a village party or the installation on the camping site? How far do we dare to go? We recognise the limits, the feeling of wanting like minded spirits and fearing differences that limit our own identity. But if one was to go to other - how could we expect for others to meet us? A collective of confident , sparkly and worldly artists who barely speak German? Whose expertise is performance? The direction of the flow is outwards.

Coming into Ponderosa is always open and always possible but it is for those who are ready to meet the unknown, the unconventional full on. it is for those who seeks it and for those who need protection from an outside that doesn't accept the differences that are sought and loved.
